Hasta la vista, baby.

Charity Shop, Shop?

hamburgler top: h&m
stupid face: yours truly

First impressions are so important in today's world that it's impossible not to care about appearance.

Take job interviews, for example. If you turned up in jogging bottoms and a hoody instead of a sharp suit would you be taken as seriously? You'd more likely be deemed unsuitable for the job, incapable even, before you even have the chance to say hello.

Anyway, this train of thought came from a compliment would you believe - a friend told me she liked my coat, "where's it from?"

"British Heart Foundation."

I've never seen a face fall so quickly. It was as if I told her I'd shot her puppy just for kicks. Even in our 'vintage loving' society shopping in charity shops has a stigma attached to it.

"Someone probably died in that coat."

Thanks for that. The utter disdain in her voice made me recoil and check to see if my coat contained a lost, wandering soul angry at me for wearing the coat.

Nope.

"Oh, you're one of those." someone else piped up. AYE. Aye I am! I'm a skin flint and I love this coat.

It's interesting to think, that had I said Topshop or Urban Outfitters and the like, she'd be impressed.

It was a fiver by the way. Pure bargain.

  1. I think your coat is lovely and who could resist for £5! I love charity shopping, I'd much rather buy second hand. A good wash and it's good as new! I don't understand why people are so funny about second hand, it saves money and it's great having a rummage through the rails not knowing what you'll find :) x

  2. I love your coat and I see nothing wrong with shopping in charity shops! In fact, I think people who don't should feel sorry for themselves because you get some real bargains!! (like your coat)

    1. Thank you!
I found a pair of genuine D&G black skinny jeans in a charity shop a few years ago, I thought things like that only happened in fairy tales... unfortunately I wore them to DEATH and they split right up the a**e a few months ago. Proper bargain! xx

    1. Thank you! It's very cosy, but I have to say I'm looking forward to not having to wear a coat... Summer come soon please!

  5. I HAAAATE that reaction.. If you turn around and say 'it's vintage' (which it kind of is) they'd probably be straight online to find out if Urban Outfitters have them in yet. Gah.. So frustrating! (And a really lovely coat!)

  8. Thanks for your comments and following me blog :) I don't think I've known anyone react like that to something being from a charity shop?! If someone compliments it in the first place they shouldn't then be disgusted by where you got it, just jealous they can't get their own! Looks like a lovely jacket to me :) xx
