He implied I was fat.

Cringin' into my family sized Toblerone.

C4's Mating Season isn't half making me squirm.

I find first dates awkward enough without the daunting thought of millions of people watching me make a fool of myself on the telly, so the brave (or desperate?) lil' folks on First Dates have totally gained my respect... or at least my attention.

If you haven't seen it, First Dates is a reality tv-esque programme, setting up singles on yes, you guessed it, a first date:

"Every week First Dates will follow a range of couples going on a blind date. From the moment they first lay eyes on each other to their parting glance, we’ll be capturing every magic moment in their quest for a compatible match. We’re keeping everything crossed for love to blossom on camera, but if the spark’s not there in our discreetly rigged restaurant, some of our daters will be appealing to you, to date them."

Agh. Worst. Nightmare. I can't help myself though, I love trashy reality shows like this.

...or Take Me Out.
(you know you love it, too)

These ladies have been handling the odd disaster rather well I have to say, from the guy that rapped (badly) to his date, or the one that started chatting about farting over dinner (charmer) to that delightful gent that came out with the line: "a good date ends with a bit of jiggly jiggly don't it?"

...that was this guy. Keeper, right there.

This programme genuinely makes me feel better about my love life and bad (some awful) first dates... such as the one with the guy that stared at me so intently I thought he was plotting my murder, to the guy that took me to see Iron Man then later asked who Robert Downey Jr is - facepalm - or my ever favourite, Mr Halitosis that will continue to refuse that tic tac offer.

It's good to know  it's not just my love life that isn't always living up to a Meg Ryan rom com.

Have you been watching?

  1. That would make me way too uncomfortable to watch! I once went on a date with a guy who told me he'd been in prison for GBH. He'd come home to find his girlfriend at the time in bed with another guy, who he threw down some stairs...charmer.
    There was no second date.
